Your smart meters and in home display will help you to understand where and when you are using the most energy. These tips from SmartEnergyGB and USwitch can help you to save energy and reduce your bills.

  • Roughly 60% of what you spend a year on energy bills goes toward your boiler. A new energy efficient boiler can save you as much as £300 a year.

  • Microwaves are one of the most energy efficient ways to cook; using it for 10 minutes a day will only cost about £3 per year 

  • Save around £30 a year by turning your appliances off standby

  • Spending one minute less in the shower each day will save you around £7 on your energy bills, per person, per year.

  • Avoid pre-rinsing dishes in hot water. Save water and energy by just scraping the dishes before they go into the dishwasher.

  • 90% of your energy spend on your washing machine is on heating the water. So if you wash your clothes at 30 -40 degrees C you should start saving.                                                                                                                                                                             

  • According to the Energy Savings Trust you could find that your energy usage drops between 5% and 15% in the first year of using an energy monitor, which could be a saving of £25 to £75 on a £500 bill.
